Join us for a night of poetic voices for mental health. Hear from local poetry artists J.R. Rice, Julian Blackmon aka Protected Poet, Monique "MoeMinistry" McCoy and musician Mateo Jordan.

J.R. Rice has been an active English teacher for more than 10 years. He currently teaches and resides in the Bay Area.. He has always been captivated by the power of words and their ability to inspire, motivate and transform lives. He is an award-winning author of the novella, Broken Pencils (June 11, 2024), the poetry collection, I WAS, AM, WILL BE, and the poem, “Righteous Rage (P.T.S.D)” published in the poetry collection, The Town: An Anthology of Oakland Poets by Nomadic Press. Julian Blackmon (@Protected_Poet) is a dynamic performer and wordsmith poet, born in Marion, Indiana, and raised in the Bay Area, who draws passion to craft evocative pieces addressing healing and personal experiences. He earned the Grand Slam Champion at the 2024 Berkeley Poetry Slam. His debut poetry book, “A Piece of Me” is now available. Learn more about the artist and his work

Monique Mccoy (@iammoniquemccoy) Monique “MoeMinistry” McCoy is an Author and Spoken Word Poet, born and raised in California’s Bay Area. Growing up in the heart of San Francisco's Hunters Point projects, Monique knows first-hand the tenacity it takes to rise above unfavorable circumstances. Her poetry is both introspective and motivational. Her delivery and cadence is a reflection of her first love: Hiphop. Her debut book, "Poetry's Daughter" is available now. Mateo Jordan is a musician, singer, and local community member who has interest in societal growth and change. He has come to share a slice of his life and he hopes that you can connect with the experience in a healthy and helpful way. He just released a project called Teo Tunes vol.1 on plenty of free platforms such as Untitled, SoundCloud, and band camp as well as some music videos on YouTube!
